It’s National Happy Cat Month!
What better way to celebrate a holiday just for our Happy Cats 😻 than a round of purrs for our latest adopters and their families! You are the happy ending for our kitties and we are so grateful to you.
Cat adoptions are down nationwide, but our adoptions are up 39% from last year… thanks directly to you!
For the love of adult cats
We ❤️ our adorable kittens, but we’re just as committed to ensuring our adults, seniors and catolescents get as much attention as the kittens.
Like dapper senior Bogart below, 55-65% of our adoptions go to these more vulnerable cats. Big headbonks to everyone for giving them the extra chance they deserve!
And special thanks to everyone on Facebook or Instagram who shares their stories to help us find them homes!
Happy Anniversary, Biscuit Factory!
Almost a year ago, we began a partnership with Colorado Springs’ first full-time cat cafe, The Biscuit Factory Cat Lounge.
Based on the traditional Japanese model of offering a relaxing beverage and time with kitties for a small entrance fee, the Biscuit has been a meowsing success!
By the time they celebrate their first anniversary next month they will have helped us find homes for over 120 cats and catolescents! Congrats to Lauren & her crew and all our Biscuiteers!
Lending a paw
Our mission is to save Colorado cats, and we also help out other Southern Colorado rescues by transferring in other cats at risk. But on September 9th, Hurricane Francine hit the southern coast, including our sister rescue in Louisiana, Big Sky CARES.
The chaos of flooding, lost power and downed trees meant scrambling for fosters for their kitties, with overwhelming requests for help from other coastal rescues still underwater.
Six days later, we had already welcomed 14 kitties from Big Sky to help free up space for rescues in even greater need. Watch our Adopt page for these sassy little survivors!
Meet our tester dogs
It’s estimated that 24% of pet guardians have both dogs and cats, and we love our bipetual families! But with most cats forced to start life outside, competing for food and shelter to stay alive, it’s understandable that many are afraid to live in homes with dogs.
Enter Chloe the Pug and Daisy the Beagle! Both love their own kitties and bring that calm to visits with our Happy Cats. We introduce them gently and let the kitties choose whether or how to approach them, while carefully monitoring kitty reactions for fear or anxiety.
Dog testing can tell us which kitties would be a good fit (like LJ above who wanted to go home with Chloe!), which are a possibility and which are a definite no thanks. Big purrs to these two lovely ladies for helping us make good matches for all pet families!
Furever friends
Seniors TomTom and Saxon are a huge, handsome pair of bonded “brothers” who came to us because they were being tormented by a bully cat in their previous home.
Cory and his family hadn’t had cats in 15 years and came to our Haven looking specifically for a bonded pair. We always try to keep cat families together, so we were delighted to introduce them to the boys. Who wouldn’t be won over by a collective 34 pounds of soft, playful, purring tabbies?
Can you help with an early gift?
As we move into late 2024, we are grateful for generous donors like you who give everything from love-filled time to blankets & toys to food to financial support and beyond.
Along with increased adoptions, our intakes increased by over a third from last year, leading to 22% more spays and neuters.
If you are considering an end-of-year donation, might you make your gift early this year? With dentals averaging $1000 each (29 so far this year, mostly for our seniors), we are scrambling to keep up with our veterinary costs. Your autumn donation will help see us through to the yearend giving season.
