Merlot came to Happy Cats from a house with too many kitties. He was a black cat with silky fur, a single white toe, and a mellow, loving personality. He settled into his colony instantly, playing with the kittens and sitting quietly with the older cats.
He was shy with people, though.
Merlot hesitated to come forward and ask for snuggles. Instead he would climb to the upper ledge of the stairs in his colony and watch the volunteers and potential adopters visit the other kitties. But, if you were patient, Merlot would slowly shuffle down the stairs and crawl into your lap, purring.
Unfortunately, Merlot rarely came to the door to greet visitors. Many potential adopters thought he wasn’t friendly, especially compared to the other kitties that came to Happy Cats with Merlot. They were opinionated and outgoing.
Merlot needed someone who understood that he was a wonderful cat and just a bit shy.
Ruth came to Happy Cats looking for a kitty. She met several of the available kittens and older cats before she saw Merlot. When she walked into the colony, Merlot immediately perked up and watched her intently from the top of the stairs.
Merlot climbed down the stairs and curled around Ruth’s legs, purring loudly, just before she left. And she ended up taking him home!
He settled quickly into his new home. Ruth says “he loves me and is very affectionate.†Many days, she comes home to find him waiting for her on his blanket. And when he sees her, he rolls onto his back and purrs.
