Mandora is a big, beautiful tabby with neat white patches we rescued last winter. She’d lived all of her 8 years in a home with recluses who kept the sun out and the smoke in. They were forced to move to another location temporarily but couldn’t take their too many cats, so they were left outside to fend for themselves.
Like most of the hoarding cases we care for, most of the cats were unfixed. Several had eyes so bad they had to be removed as soon as possible, including little Maraca.
Mandora had hurt her leg sometime during those 8 years but it was never treated. She was in quite a bit of pain and rarely moved from her safe place in the colony she shared with her relatives.
Our friends at Bijou Animal Hospital said she would live a longer, healthier life without that constant pain, so with the help of our Facebook friends who raised the funds, Mandora became a tripod.
She recovered with one of our wonderful foster families and learned how to walk again. By the time she came back to the Haven, she was moving around so well she was navigating the middle levels of her cat tree, scratching on her scratcher with one front paw and flirting with everyone she met!
She became one of the sweetest cats we had, sharing her cheery cat therapy with all our staff and volunteers. She got on well with her sisters and came out for play even more often than they did, with pure joy.
Kristi and Christi had recently lost their doggie and were looking for someone else to share their love. They saw Mandora’s photos on our website by our Catographer Linda and thought she might be the one.
When they met her, she reached out to them with her resilient front paw and hearts were melted.
After she got home, they reported back that at first she was skittish over every sound, but found comfort in her familiar carrier with the blanket her foster mom had made for her.
But now she’s gaining confidence every day and they say, “We are in love and so is she. She purrs almost nonstop.
We know how important it is for you and the team to see a happy ending after everything that Mandora went through. We are thrilled to be her special parents to give her the home she deserves.
And we thank you all for giving her a second chance and not giving up on her.”
